Making pictures to music makes the most sense. In 2014, Kevin Russell came across some lighthearted and very dumb oil pastel drawings I shared online to make my siblings laugh. He reached out to me to create the album artwork for his third record, Okra Candy. We met in person after a Shinyribs show at the Saxon Pub in Austin and became pals who would go on to work together over and over in many forms. He sent me his unreleased songs and I immediately knew it was all warm yellow.

One wonderful person trusted me, and that was it. I was hooked to illustration. I’ve gotten to make so many pictures for musician friends and spouses now I can’t believe it: Adam Nurre, Calliope Musicals, Earl Pottymouth Arbuckle, Garner Sloan, the late and great Mitchell Vandenburg, and more Shinyribs.

Thank you for hiring me to translate sounds, it’s the best.
